Missed Connect - by A. Layne

You know I never really thought of you
That way before
When we would chill
It wasn’t long, but I enjoyed the time
Our time. Short and sweet
You not short…but sweet

But after every single time I left
I realized you’re my missed connect
You smile.
And though my world is clouded by…
Though my mind is shrouded by uncertainty
We have our time
Just when I think I can’t go on
We have our time
And life makes sense, once again
If only for a sec…if only for a little while
Your perfect smile
Your perfect teeth, like porcelain dreams
Like movie scenes, and so I dream

I
Dream of a world where we exist
Only to be in each other’s company
Where my life goes on only if
Your life continues in my midst
And vice versa and versa vice
Intertwined, my life, your life

But we can’t be, no you’re not for me
I wanted to ignore the signs
And blame it on imperfect times
I even tried reading between the lines
But where blank spaces filled pages, I still couldn’t write lies
About us
A perfect couple? That ship would never set sail
We’d try but with Titanic proportions we’d fail
Well maybe in another life
If fate allows us another try
So for now I cast it from my mind…

But never telling you, my greatest mistake
Not letting you know how I feel when I place
My hand on your thigh, or stare deep in your eyes
Where I can see into forever, however forever, doesn’t see us together
I know this, and it weighs down on my chest
I don’t tell you, I reason to just let this rest
Because you not knowing won’t have any effect
So forever you’ll be my missed connect
